Cape Byron Lighthouse
Byronbay
Take a guided tour of the iconic blue and white lighthouse at Cape Byron, spectacularly positioned atop Australia's most easterly headland. Commanding views awe you from every angle, especially as you step onto the Tower balcony. You'll also learn about the rich maritime history of the region. Tours take 40 minutes and cost just $6 for children, $8 for adults or $25 for a family. You can buy tickets at the lighthouse gift shop. It can get very busy and the lighthouse isn't huge so it can pay to book in advance.
Views at the Lighthouse are stunning at any time of day, but witnessing a sunrise or sunset here is especially beautiful.
To prolong your experience, you can even stay overnight in the quaint heritage Lighthouse keeper's cottages (call +61 (02) 6685 6552 to book accommodation). Dating from 1901, yet comfortably refurbished in period style, they provide a memorable overnight stay in dramatic surroundings.
The Lighthouse tours run Tuesday and Thursday at 11.00am, 12.00pm and 2.00pm. For the summer holiday period there are also Saturday tours at 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.30pm, 2.00pm and 3.30pm.
