Port Macquarie Surf Breaks

From Hat Head north of Port Macquarie down to Forster in the south, this part of the coast offers some great surfing spots and a near perfect climate.

Grassy Head

Grassy Head is a right hand point break in the Macleay Valley area that can turn on some great waves. There are also some beach breaks further north.

Hat Head

Is a quick right hand point break off the rocky headland . The break is protected from strong easterly winds and works best in SE and NE swell.

Crescent Head

Crescent Head is one of Australia’s most famous long board waves and is a recognised surfing reserve in NSW. It is quality right hand point break with slow peeling walls and rides of up to 400m.

Point Plomer

Point Plomer is a right hand point break not far from Crescent Head that is protected from the southerly wind. To the north of the beach there are some decent left and right hand beach breaks.

Port Macquarie Northshore

A left and right beach break in central Port Macquarie. To the south of the beach on the Hastings rivermouth here is a good right hander that runs off the breakwall.

Flynns

A consistent beach break 3km south of Port Macquarie. Flynns can be a good option for learning to surf and it is protected from strong southerly winds.

The Old Bar

A short drive from Taree, The Old Bar offers some consistent left and right hand banks.

Saltwater Point

A right hand point break north of Forster. Saltwater is a good option in a southerly wind, with protection from the headland.

In NE swell a nice right hander breaks off the north breakwall of Wallis Lake. Further up Nine Mile beach are some smaller left and right hand beach breaks.

Forster / One Mile Beach

Forster is a picturesque town and the hub for the Great Lakes area. There are several beach breaks on One Mile Beach and also a nice left hander off the breakwall that works best in NE swells.
