Newcastle Surf Breaks

Newcastle is called the 'Surf City' and is known to have one of highest number of surfers per capita in the world! There are some fantastic breaks in the town and beyond. Check them out here.

Boomerang Beach

Boomerang is a pristine beach in the Great Lakes district. There is a good selection of breaks with a nice left hand bank at the north end of the beach, a right hander at the southern end and several beach break options in between.

Blueys Beach

A consistent left hand beach break working best in NE swell. Blueys is in a remote location so a good place to avoid the crowds and share some waves with your mates.

Seal Rocks

Seal Rocks is a right hand point break that works best when SE swells wraps around the point and pushes into Sugar loaf bay. It is a secluded spot and a good place to avoid the crowds.

Treachery

Treachery is a rugged beach that attracts some major swell. A powerful left hander breaks off the rock which is more suited to the experienced surfer when it is on.

One Mile Beach

One Mile offers both a  right hand point break and beach break options further north. The point is a favourite amongst the local long boarders working best in SE swells.

Anna Bay

Is a consistent reef break near Port Stephens working best in an E/SE swell. There are both left and right handers on offer.

Stockton Beach

Stockton is a long sweeping 30km stretch of open beach from Port Stephens to Newcastle. There are lots of left and right hand beach break ‎options and some massive sand dunes to surf on if there is no swell.‎

Nobby's Beach

Nobbys is a Newcastle town beach located 5 minutes south of the city. There are a number of left and right hand beach breaks.‎

Cowrie Hole

A right hand reef break located off the top of the outdoor baths. It is a steep take off, jacking up quickly on the reef and is suited to the experienced surfer.

Newcastle Town Beach

The main town beach in Newcastle offers some excellent left and right hand beach breaks and is best in SE/NE swells. It can get busy as it is walking distance from the town centre, so is often packed with the local grommets.

Merewether Beach

A right hand point break 10 minutes drive south of Newcastle centre. Merewether Beach is a recognised National Surfing Reser and home to surfing legend Mark ‎Richards.

Redhead Beach

Redhead has some nice left handers in North East swell and is a favourite with local long boarders‎.
