Newcastle City Farmers Market

Every Sunday morning the Newcastle Showgrounds in Broadmeadow comes alive with the Newcastle City Farmers and Makers Market. Farm fresh produce from across the region comes straight from the paddock to the plate. As well as local gourmet food producers and boutique wineries, there are craft makers, plants for sale, different indoor pavillions to browse and even live music to keep the crowds entertained.

The markets run from 8am to 1pm and it's just $2 for carparking (with funds going towards the upkeep of the showgrounds).

Wander around and sample beautiful produce from all across the region. It's easy to make a breakfast or lunch out of it and some of our favourite recent tastings and purchases include fresh sweet pineapple, juicy white peaches, Binorie cheeses from the Hunter Valley (especially the deliciously light labne yoghurt style cheese), antipasto, german hazelnut cookies, beef chilli and cheese sausages, olives including chilli stuffed olives and port wine and cheese stuffed, dutch mini pancakes with fresh strawberries, sizzling hot sausage rolls, organic bakery breads, hot smoked and chilli infused salmon and ocean fresh Port Stephen's oysters.

Some well known local purveyors have stalls, including the Hunter Valley Pasta Company, offering hand made gourmet pastas and traditional Italian favourites, like home-made gnocchis and tomato based sauces. They do some delicious and unique twists too e.g. Peking Duck in Green Onion and Black Sesame Pasta, Apple Cider Braised Pork Shoulder with double crackling filled gourmet ravioli, or King Prawn with Chilli and Garlic in Coriander Pasta.

The Tranquil teahouse has over 40 blends, with favourites such as Peppermint and Chamomile, or for the more adventurous why not try Australian Black Lemon Myrtle Tea or Jasmine 'Buddah Balls'.

You'll also find Australian Estate Coffee, for local sauces and chutneys with bite there's The Chilli Factory. From the Port Stephens region, Medowie Macadamias offer all things macadamia, including chocolate covered macadamias, spreads and oils and even macadamia butter.
