Find top surf breaks in the Tweed Coast, in the Byron Bay area down the Clarence Coast to Angourie.

 

Tweed Breakwall

A good left hander off the south break wall on the Tweed river mouth. Located on the NSW/QLD border just south of the famous Snapper Rocks and D-Bar breaks.

Fingal Point

Fingal Head is a right hand point break. It works best in NE swell and there are also some beach break options. If you feel like a paddle, Cook Island Marine reserve straight out from Fingal also has some good waves.

Casuarina Beach

Casuarina is a long open beach with a variety of left and right hand beach breaks located 3 km south of Kingscliff. It is the base of Surfing Australia’s High Performance Centre and you'll often see young guns out training.

Cabarita Point

Cabarita is a consistent right hand point break that works best in SE swell. The point holds some decent size with some long rides to be had.

Hastings Point

Just south of Cabarita Headland, Hastings Point is another good peeling right hand point break next to the estuary.

Brunswick Heads

Located 15 minutes north of Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads is a decent right hander off the breakwater. It is best in NE swell. There is also a left hand beach break on the other side of the heads that is worth a look.

Belongil

Belongil is located at the north end of Byron Bay with a number of  right and left hand beach breaks. The wave is slow rolling and more suited to longboarders.

The Wreck

The wreck is old sunken ship situated in the centre of Byron Bay just north of the Beach Hotel. It is a fast beach break that can be challenging in big swell.

The Pass

The Pass is a famous right hand point break located at the south end of Byron Bay. The wave wraps around the rock and pushes across the bay with decent rides up to 300m. Down the front here is a really popular spot for learning and you’ll frequently see local surf schools out. If you are a beginner take off from the Clarkes beach end of the break.

Watego’s

Watego’s is a right hand point break off the most easterly beach in Australia. It is a slow rolling wave that can break a long way out and is a favourite for long boarders. You often see the local dolphins in the line up catching the best of the action.

Tallows Beach

The beach south of the Byron Bay lighthouse, Tallows is a long stretch of white sand with a number of left and right hand beach breaks. Cosy Corner, the left hander against the cliff, is often sheltered when the wind is strong.

Broken Head

Broken Head is a fast peeling right hand point break situated 10 minutes drive to the south of Byron Bay.

Lennox Head

A world famous right hand point break that holds some major swell. Lennox is a protected surfing reserve and a favourite amongst the locals and the surfing elite when it is on. It is not suited to learning as there are some strong currents and massive rocks. The Lennox lookout is a good vantage point to watch some quality surfing.

North Wall

The North Wall is a consistent right-hander off the breakwater at Richmond River close to Ballina.

Evans Head

Evans Head is a right hand beach break next to the rivermouth, 15 minutes south of Ballina. It is a chilled village with a fun wave that is suited to all levels and is a good spot if you are wanting to avoid the crowds.

Angourie Point

Angourie Point is a world famous right hand point break that was declared the first National Surfing Reserve in Australia in 2007. Like Lennox, Angourie is more suited to the experienced surfer when there is swell.

On the other side of the point at Angourie there is also a left hand point break.
